Beautiful Bermuda Travel : 10 reasons to book a unique trip

Share by Melanie Reffes

Steeped in British tradition and tinged with Caribbean charm, Bermuda is a fish-hook shaped string of 181 islands, islets and rocks; most of them uninhabited and some so small there's barely room for the birds to build their nests in the trees. Anchored in the turquoise Atlantic Ocean 650 miles east of North Carolina, temperatures rarely reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit and high season is from April to November when the weather is warmest, unlike other Caribbean islands that swarm with tourists during the cold winter months back home. Salt-in-the-air and sand-in-the-hair beaches are pink and there are more golf courses per square mile here than anywhere else in the world. Finding inspiration on the island, novelist Mark Twain said it best when he noted, "You can go to heaven if you want. I'd rather stay in Bermuda."

Getting around, Bermuda style
Measuring 21-square-miles, it's easy to get from one end of Bermuda to the other on a pink and blue Bermuda Breeze Bus (a day pass goes for USD$19.00), rented scooter (remember to scoot on the left side of the road), ferry from Hamilton, St. George and the Dockyard or you can hire a taxi driver who is also a tour guide. With about 3000 cab drivers (65,000 people live on the island), it's no surprise 400 are licensed tour guides. This means they are certified by the Bermuda Tourism Authority and have passed an exam ensuring they know enough about the island to entertain tourists who want to learn. Larry Rogers is one of those Blue Flag guides and for USD$50.00 an hour, he'll happily take up to four people on a tour pointing out the moon gates, pink beaches, hip happy hours and if you ask nicely, he'll show you where actor Michael Douglas and his family lives (in one of the Ariel Sands Villas) and where former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg plays golf. (Mid Ocean Club). .... keep reading .... http://usat.ly/1K7tUJa

You need to see The Ganges, a River of Souls

Share By ROY HOFFMAN
We started through narrow alleys at 5 a.m., moving past somnolent cows curled against doorways and gaunt dogs on steps and women in saris moving toward us through the gloom, a motorbike vrooming in the distance.
“Watch where you walk,” said our guide, nicknamed A.K. — a native of this ancient city of nearly 1.2 million in northeast India, a short, sturdy man distinguished by his white cap with Reebok logo — leading us toward our dawn boat ride on the Ganges. “Organic land mines,” he warned us as we hopscotched over the cow patties and turned into an alley slightly wider than the first.A.K. knew what patter worked with Westerners, how to put at ease first-timers to India like us, now at one of the holiest places in Hindu lore. “The Ganges flows east and west,” A.K. said, part of his practiced routine, “but here it flows north and south, so it can touch Varanasi.” ........keep reading .......  http://stfi.re/bwpxvdx

Thailand travel : The secret side paradise Thai island's

By Colleen Hagerty
Thailand’s Phi Phi islands are by no means uncharted territory. Located off the coast of Krabi in southern Thailand, the archipelago is best known for its largest two islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Gushed about in guidebooks and beloved by the backpacker set, these islands are famous for their sandy beaches, warm waters and towering limestone cliffs. There is a drawback, however: thousands of tourists wander their shores every day, particularly during the high season from November to March......... >> http://ln.is/aWyU5

Enjoy the special Nepal travel year-round trekking route

By Christina Ammon
“Ukaalo, oraalo,” said our guide, Naresh Gurung, describing the three-hour hike we’d just begun toward Three Mountain Lodge in central Nepal. He undulated his hand: “up” and “down”.

I’d been on treks in the Himalayas before and wondered if, in a country where the earth rises to the hypoxia-inducing heights of Mount Everest, a word for “flat” even existed. And yet the trail disappearing into distant orange groves before us looked almost flat.
Nepal’s classic Himalayan treks – the Annapurna Circuit, say, and the route to Everest Base Camp – are arduous journeys that approach altitudes of 5,416m. This trek I’d signed on for couldn’t be more different: a moderate hike in the 1,200m midlands. We would admire the high Himalayas from afar without being in them. There would be no altitude sickness, no bitter cold, and no avalanches like the one that killed dozens of people on the Annapurna Circuit in October 2014. And after our hike, we’d arrive at lodges – two on this trip – with soft beds, warm showers, and even a cocktail hour...........keep reading......  http://ln.is/45k4e
